The wall is not intelligence, it is knowing what to use
The bet under the whole project: a bigger model is not what makes an assistant more useful to me. Knowing which of my own thoughts matters right now is.
The bet under this whole project is not a flashy one: that a bigger model is not what will make an assistant more useful to me, specifically. I want to be upfront that plenty of people are circling the same idea right now, under names like context engineering or agentic scaffolding. I did not find it. But here is how it landed for me.
The model can already reason, and that part keeps improving on its own. Working with me over months, what it lacks is not horsepower. It is a sense of which of my thousands of past thoughts is the one that bears on what is in front of me this minute. That is a retrieval-and-relevance problem, not a reasoning one, and it is the part nobody has really solved.
“Meta-cognition” is a borrowed word, it comes from psychology, thinking about thinking, but it is the closest name for the layer I mean: the part that decides when, how, and why to reach for a capability you already have. Sapix is a bet on that layer.
And to be honest about where it actually stands today: it is ingest-heavy and surface-light. Good at capturing, still learning when to bring things back. Most of these notes are me circling that gap from one side or another.
The reason I trust the bet is that it is the human shape too. You do not get past a hard problem by growing your brain. You get better at recalling the right pattern at the right moment. If that is where the leverage is for a person, it is where I want to build for the thing that works alongside one.
